What is a periodic detailed examination (PDE) for lifting equipment?
A Periodic Detailed Examination (PDE) is a thorough inspection of lifting tools and tackles carried out at scheduled intervals to ensure they remain safe, reliable, and fit for continued use.
In the Indian context, PDE goes beyond routine visual checks and involves a comprehensive assessment by a competent person. During this examination, lifting equipment such as slings, shackles, hooks, chains, wire ropes, and below-the-hook devices are carefully inspected for wear, deformation, cracks, corrosion, elongation, and other signs of damage that may affect performance.
The inspection also includes verification of Safe Working Load (SWL), identification tags, certification status, and inspection history. Where required, measurements and functional checks are conducted to confirm that the equipment continues to meet safe operating limits.
At Uniquo, PDE inspections are carried out systematically with proper documentation and recommendations, helping clients maintain safe lifting operations and strong safety compliance across their projects.
