Question 05

How is load testing performed?

Load testing is performed by applying a controlled load to equipment or structures to verify their strength, stability, and Safe Working Load (SWL). The testing process is carried out using calibrated equipment and follows standard safety procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results.

In India, load testing is typically conducted in accordance with requirements under the Factories Act, 1948 and applicable State Rules monitored by the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, and is performed by a Competent Person.

Typical Load Testing Process

  • Visual inspection of equipment before testing
  • Verification of equipment details and Safe Working Load (SWL)
  • Setup of calibrated load testing equipment or test weights
  • Gradual application of load up to specified test load
  • Monitoring for deformation, stability, and performance
  • Holding the load for a specified duration
  • Gradual unloading and post-test inspection
  • Documentation and certification

Load testing may be conducted using test weights, water bags, load cells, or hydraulic systems, depending on the equipment and site conditions.

After successful testing, test certificates and inspection reports are issued for compliance and record purposes. At Uniquo, load testing is conducted safely and efficiently to ensure compliance with Indian safety standards and reliable equipment performance.
