What is Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT)?
Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) is a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) method used to detect surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials such as steel and iron. This method works by applying a magnetic field to the component and then applying magnetic particles. If there are cracks or discontinuities, the particles gather at those locations, making defects clearly visible.
Magnetic Particle Testing is commonly used for inspecting:
- Weld joints and fabricated structures
- Cranes and lifting equipment components
- Hooks, shackles, and lifting tools
- Structural steel components
- Machinery parts and pressure vessels
When is MPT Used?
- During periodic inspections
- After repairs or welding work
- When cracks or fatigue are suspected
- During preventive maintenance
- Before commissioning critical equipment
In India, Magnetic Particle Testing is conducted in line with safety requirements under the Factories Act, 1948, standards from the Bureau of Indian Standards, and guidelines issued by the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health.
MPT helps detect defects early, prevent failures, and ensure safe operation of critical components. At Uniquo, Magnetic Particle Testing is carried out by trained professionals using approved procedures for accurate and reliable inspection results.
