What is visual weld inspection?
Visual Weld Inspection (VWI), also known as Visual Testing (VT), is the most basic and widely used method of welding inspection in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). It involves examining the surface of a weld using the naked eye or simple inspection tools to identify visible defects.
During visual inspection, factors such as weld size, alignment, surface finish, cracks, porosity, undercut, overlap, and proper fusion are checked against the required standards and drawings.
In the Indian industrial context, visual weld inspection is commonly used in fabrication workshops, construction sites, pipelines, power plants, and manufacturing units as a first-line quality control method before further advanced testing is carried out.
It is a fast, cost-effective, and essential step in ensuring that welds meet basic quality and safety requirements as per applicable Indian Standards (IS), ASME, and project specifications.
At Uniquo, visual weld inspections are performed by trained and certified inspectors to ensure early detection of defects and to maintain consistent welding quality across all industrial applications.
